Culinary Program Director

Position: Culinary Program Director

Salary Range: $70,000-$85,000

Position Summary:  The Culinary Program Director is responsible for oversight of Indigenous Food Lab Professional Indigenous Kitchen and Training Center (IFL).  The position oversees the production of fast-casual food to serving clients, like the Indigenous restaurant and sister organization, Owamni.  The Culinary Program Director leads administrative work expanding the culinary program to include packaged foods for public purchase and other initiatives as we grow throughout Indian Country and across Indigenous communities globally. 

Knowledge/Skills/Ability:

Skills and ability in planning and implementing a robust curriculum targeted to varying student needs, including the following considerations:

  • 2+ years’ experience in program leadership
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current restaurant industry trends
  • Must possess culinary creativity
  • Must have an interest or experience in working with Indigenous foods and expanding skills and knowledge in this area
  • Experience providing direction and supervision to kitchen staff
  • Knowledge of basic Spanish is helpful, fluent is ideal  Detail orientation
  • Highly organized
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Skill in conflict management
  • Financial management skills sufficient to assist with purchasing, invoice payment, and budget (P&L) management
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

ADA requirements:

  • Extended periods of standing
  • Written and verbal communication ability
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Computer use for ordering, inventory, invoice management

*English speaking, conversational Spanish preferred, with knowledge of Indigenous language value
